The History of the " Kinderinsel"
"Die Kinderinsel" offers flexible, quality childcare that provides care at hours that are not covered by the regular Kita-and Hort opening hours. Every person working outside the home who has children is familiar with the problem of trying to balance having a successful career and at the same time raising happy children. "Die Kinder-insel" provides a solution for parents who have busy schedules, travel a lot or move homes frequently, work overtime, and have night shifts.
In 1998, Anita Drews, a cook, event planner, musician and single parent, had the idea of a flexible childcare in the form of a children's hotel. Anita developed a business plan for her idea which was winner of Berlin's Investitionsbank 1999 Business-Plan-Competition. "Die Kinderinsel GmbH" was then founded in March 2000, and in December of that year, acquired its present domicile in Berlin-Mitte. Two years after the original idea, on March 31, 2001, Anita opened the doors of the first international children's hotel, "die Kinderinsel" in the heart of Berlin. "Die Kinderinsel" is an adventure world for kids and offers 14 cozy places to sleep at night, a theatre- and multi-purpose room, and a special room for art-and media workshops. "Die Kinderinsel is "a home away from home" for kids.
In addition to the children's hotel, " die Kinderinsel mobile" was created so that children can be both picked up and returned to either their temporary or permanent residences in Berlin. "Die Kinderinsel mobile also organizes sightseeing-and adventure tours for kids. Childcare for groups and individual theme concepts are offered for company meetings, trade fairs and other events. Parents are as well offered a 24-hour babysitting service that will come to the home or any hotel in Berlin. A Clubcard was developed especially for companies to offer last-minute, around-the-clock childcare for children of employees in the case of an emergency.
Due to the success of "die Kinderinsel" in Berlin, branches of "die Kinderinsel" will open soon in Hanover, Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt.
At present, Anita Drews has a team of 5 full-time and 40 part-time educators who offer a variety of educational and cultural programs seven days a week in 17 different languages and for whom the children in their care come first and the quality of childcare is most important.
"Die Kinderinsel" also offers many exciting island adventures for kids living in Berlin who stay at home during their vacation.
